The Alexander Farm Tenant House

As new developments come to the Charlotte area, many historic buildings are being lost. If we’re not careful, the stories associated with those buildings are at risk as well.

The Alexander Farm Tenant House was built in the early 1900’s to house tenant farmers who worked farms throughout the region. Some of its residents worked on the Alexander family land as farmers and caretakers, while others worked throughout Charlotte. Over more than a century, this property collected stories with which the local historic preservation community is diligently working to retell once more.

When the family sold the farm to a developer, I was contacted to help visually preserve the history of this building. As efforts to preserve the building proved fruitful, that job quickly turned to documenting the preservation efforts. This gallery includes some of the images created during that time. Once this project is finally finished, I will likely replace this page with a written story of my experience working on it.
